Let the New Adventure Begin

We have set forth on our backward Oregon Trail.
The day started early and by 9 we were at the Penske dealer ....
But there was no truck.
It wouldn't arrive at 10!

But ... It finally arrived as a 22'.

And...the one hour delay saved us another $250 for our inconvenience.
I don't know about you, but that's a good hourly wage.

We began loading at about 11:30 and were wrapping up at 3:30.
A friend arrived just in time to help move the hide-a-bed (and be put to work cleaning my fridge and kitchen floor)..
We then jetted to town for a very late lunch,
Returned home to finish cleaning,
And hit the road at about 5:45.

We got a few miles down the road.
Tomorrow will be our longest day mileage-wise with a stop in Boise to see family for lunch.

Hubby said this is the first time in our marriage that he feels like we will be settled.
Our time in NY was dictated by the Navy.
WA was as well.
We expected to be only 4 years in NC for school.
And though we didn't know the length, we knew OR was a temporary mission.
Now ... It feels like we may be able to put down some roots ...
Of course, if it is in God's will...

The view for 4 full days and 2 half days

And Yet Another Blessing

 Why not another blessing?

Our short term apartment was a one bedroom apartment on the third floor.
We were pleased with the cost and the short lease, but not excited about move in day.

BUT

A first floor came open and they let us switch with no fees!

Praise the LORD!

Is Your Faith Strengthened Yet?

 It's not a sure thing, yet ...
But ...
I just got off the phone with Penske to confirm our truck.

They are 90% sure that they will have the 22' for us!

AND

I asked if they could stack discount codes for me ...
God said "YES!"

That will take another $500 off of our rental.
I think that may just compensate for the increase in gas prices the last month.

It is because God hears and answers prayers ...
YOUR prayers.

Don't forget that.

One Day Left

Just a brief update for all of the prayer warriors.
Tomorrow is moving day!

Saturday was a productive day with extra help from hubby.
We emptied the living room and packed up miscellaneous things in the garage.
We also enjoyed a walk in the Oregon Spring weather.

Yesterday, we said goodbye at church.

Today, I need to cook meals for the trip and pack up the kitchen and master closet.
I have been able to clean carpets as we empty rooms which has been nice.
Tomorrow we will find out if God was pleased to give us the 22' truck or if He knew we needed the 26'!
Please pray for space in the cul-de-sac to load the truck (neighbors at work or in their driveways).
Please pray for strength and safety after this weekend of packing to load the truck.

Our long days of travel will be Wednesday to Friday.
It looks like the weather will be good along the way -
please continue to pray for safety that way.

We are also glad to see gas prices level off -
please pray that they might stay put or lower as we travel.

God provided a storage unit in KY.
Who knew that it was such a hot commodity?
Our apartment is waiting for us next Monday.
Our new home was roofed late last week and will receive brick-facing this week.

Daily, we realize just how blessed we are.
As we walked on Saturday, we enjoyed a community similar to the one we are moving to.
When we arrived in OR, we thought out loud about how nice it would be to live in such a neighborhood -
in a new or fairly new home.
And God has given us the desires of our hearts.

Different Days

My normally scheduled life is a little less scheduled these days.
Frequent phone calls from builders, banks, or realtors.
Being available to show the house to prospective renters.
Packing when I think I may have no more use for an item in this location.

Right now, I am blogging in the garage as I wait on the landlady to do 2 showings.
It does help me keep the place clean, but I do hope that the house rents soon.
This is the second group of 2 prospectives in the last 2 weeks.
Last week, the showing was just before church on Wednesday night -
not quite convenient for getting out the door.

I got a lot done over the weekend.
Hubby was doing some last-minute family visiting up in Washington,
and I stayed to continue packing, sorting, and finishing up church responsibilities.
It sure was nice to have him home after 4 quiet days.

Hubby announced his departure from work yesterday.
Praise the Lord that they are going to let him work right up until the end!
They are even having a little cookout for him on the last day.

It is turning more "Spring-y" every day.
We are enjoying the daffodils, hyacinths, and crocus.
The color is so welcome after the grey winter.
The warmer weather invites me to walk to town,
which is a blessing since I am not doing large shopping trips but merely an as-needed shopping.
The longer days give us more energy.

Speaking of grocery shopping,
I went through the pantry while hubby was gone and made a list of meals to use up many canned foods.
I cannot assign a day to each item,
but here is what we will be eating for the next 2 weeks.

Bean and Rice Burrito
Chili and Baked Potato (Lunch item)
Red beans and Rice (lunch item)
Tuscan Chicken
Stuffing breakfast casserole (x2)
Asian noodles (x2)
Fish and French Fries (Friday night x2)
Tuna (lunch item)
Red Lentil Soup
Veggie Stew
Grilled Veggie Sandwich
Salmon Cakes
Corned Beef and Cabbage
Spanish Rice with Beans

Pray Specifically - Get Specific Answers

 2 Weeks To Go!

I know that prayer has paved our way in this season of our lives.
I have already documented so many ways that the Lord has directed us and answered YOUR prayers.

So, if you are still praying ...

* Pray that Penske would have the 22' truck for us instead of upgrading us up to the 26'.
* Pray that we will be storm-free for our early spring trek, especially through the plains.
* Pray that God would allow Chris to work for the last 2 weeks after he gives his notice
(this is a little atypical with his employer).
*Pray that we would accept graciously the gas prices before us.

And on a little aside:
I enjoyed a walk to town this morning.
Almost more than the walk,
I enjoyed being able to smile at others as I did my shopping.
The mask mandate ended today!

Why Exercise?

Exercise is a daily part of my life.
I actually dislike it.
It takes time.
It takes effort.
I feel sore the next day.
BUT ...
It strengthens me.
It builds my endurance.
It challenges me.
It reduces stress.
I gives me more energy.

It doesn't happen immediately.
For a while, I have to envision the results.
But then it surprises me.
One day I jog without being winded.
One day I lift something easily that used to be hard.
One day I see that muscle more distinctly.

After our bout with sickness last month,
we finally got back to running this week.
Hubby and I went out for our WOG.
I got my heart rate up and we enjoyed the sunshine together.
We look forward to building those lung and leg muscles again.

Faith is the same way.
It must be exercised in order to be strengthened.
And in much the same way, you wait to see the results.

Our trials have been relatively few,
but in recent days, we look back over nearly 20 years and see where the trials have yielded results.
I smile when I look at the gas reports and the last time gas prices were this high.
When?  July 2008 - right before we moved from WA to NC -
to start school with no job lined up!
And God provided.

We have lived in a town, in a home, in a state that is designed for engineers, computer techs, and 2 income households for 3 years.
We can't really afford to live in Oregon.
BUT - God provided abundantly.

And today, the slow build of strength that these trials have yielded is seen as we face the future with more confidence than we might have in the past...
not confidence in ourselves, but confidence in our God.

And now we envision the increased strength that this move will provide.
More confidence in God.
More stories of miraculous provision (as we have already seen).

So maybe you have a trial before you ...
just remember that the trying of your faith is designed to produce fruit in your life.
God knows the timing, the situation, the trial ...
... and He is already there.
