Friday Forum: Care Packages

Yesterday, I mentioned college care packages.

I have plenty of friends/family in or shortly out of college,
plenty of family looking forward to college,
and many readers who have "been there, done that."

What would you love to see in a care package?

Thrifty ideas?

Theme boxes?

All ideas accepted.

  1. I liked the surprise of "little" packages more frequently than one "big" package, which was usually full of good stuff that you had to eat right away or it went stale or you had to store it on your already full shelf to enjoy a bit at a time. The little things were pleasant to find in my mailbox (didn't have to get a package slip to pick up only when the PO is open) and enjoy right away--a little taste of home and being remembered. I really don't remember what was even in them--it was just the being remembered that I remember. Sarah

    1. I agree - trying to work the "small" into the church wide efforts. And oh how I remember those PO hours and the agony of waiting to get my package.

  2. I agree that small is better. Regular better than irregular. I loved the quick snack/meal items like Ramen or instant oatmeal that filled in when I had to miss meals or got hungry between meals. Nothing quite says we care like actually knowing the likes and habits of each student. Certificates for a "Sunday dinner" at a church families home could be added. I enjoyed receiving notes when someone was praying for me. These do not have to cost much, but honest support in prayer is still impacting my heart today.

  3. Working on a monthly attempt at remembrance - September, October, November ... February, March, April. I think that the October box will be the snack/meal items. Contemplating having the church help fill "Open when ..." envelopes. This could be verses, could be coloring pages by little ones, could be comics, ...
