Carols with the Whole Story

It wasn't until we moved to NC that I was made aware
that there are people who do not like Christmas carols;
that there are many who do not celebrate the Savior's birth.
Those who are "anti-carols" say that the carols celebrate a baby and not His work.
I do not agree.
This is hubby's favorite - when not abbreviated -
it tells the WHOLE story.
What do you think?

What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

  1. Those are my favorite Christmas Carols! "Who is He in Yonder Stall" (With all 6 'double' verses - not the single line and then the chorus), "As With Gladness Men of Old" (With it's emphasis on our response to the Savior), "O Holy Night" (Truly He taught us to love one another!), "Joy to the World" (Redemption and His reign!) and many others that tell of His love and call for our response to Him.
